Provides full range of speech therapy services to patients of West Virginia University Hospitals.
The staff speech therapist works independently and in consultation of referring physicians with guidance of supervisory personnel, organizing treatments to meet established criteria and proper documentation in patients’ medical records.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1.
Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
2.
Current or temporary licensure in state of West Virginia.
Permanent licensure within 90 days of hire OR if a recent graduate, must be working toward completion of Clinical Fellowship with a current provisional West Virginia license.
3.
Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : EXPERIENCE: 1.
One year experience preferred.

Provides coordinated and comprehensive patient care including assessment, expected outcomes, rehabilitation interventions and evaluation with an interdisciplinary team approach.
2.
Evaluates speech, language, swallowing, and cognitive-linguistic needs and develops and implements the treatment programs for assigned patients to provide coordinated and comprehensive patient care including assessment, expected outcomes, and rehabilitation interventions within an interdisciplinary team approach.
Determines/revises priorities for direct/indirect patient care activities based on patient need and available resources.
Documents all treatments, according to department policies and procedures, as monitored by supervision, by documentation review, and consultation with M.
D.
3.
Performs evaluation of patient response to tasks performed and delegated.
4.
Participates in the Performance Improvement program of the Rehabilitation Services department with emphasis on speech therapy, to assure the delivery of appropriate, timely, and cost-effective services.
5.
Supervises assigned graduate assistants/interns, students and volunteers.
Assigns schedules for students to participate in evaluation and treatment of patients conducted in the hospital setting.
Approves graduate student lesson plans, reports, documentation in hospital EMR, or appropriate written communication for assigned patients.
Provides feedback to students during supervised sessions.
Discusses techniques, goals, and materials to be used in therapy sessions.
Provides written evaluation of student performance at the end of the semester.
6.
Participates in meeting the goals and objectives of the work unit and department to ensure that the department contributes to the attainment of the hospital’s goals and objectives.
7.
Maintains proper attendance and punctuality to ensure that the hospital is operated in an efficient and cost effective manner.
8.
Participates in education and training of West Virginia University staff, students, patients, and family members to assure the appropriate delivery of care and to achieve the WVU Hospital mission.
