The Ultrasound Technologist performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures within the radiology department utilizing specific equipment for that purpose.
The individual will rotate through diagnostic radiology as assigned and will perform all responsibilities outlined in the staff technologist job description.
He/she will be involved in the practice of radiation and general safety at all times.
The Ultrasound Technologist will be required to take rotating call after hours, on weekends, and on holidays.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1.
Be in good standing with ECE.
2.
Must be ARDMS registered or board eligible OR Sonography registry through the ARRT.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : EXPERIENCE: 1.
Graduate of an ultrasound training program or one year on-the-job training.

1.
Maintains strict adherence to, and compliance with, the hospital’s code of ethical behavior, corporate ethics plan, corporate compliance plan, and all applicable handbook policies and/or procedure’s.
2.
Prepares room, equipment, and materials as needed for patient exams, including sterile technique.
Cleans and disinfects rooms and equipment, using current infection control policies, following each patient exam.
3.
Performs examinations per physician’s orders and explains the procedures to patients.
Documents any variations from protocol due to patient’s condition or other unknown cause and relays patient history and clinical data to radiologist.
4.
Observes patient and equipment and reports any unusual occurrences or changes.
5.
Document status of patient in reference to radiology/ultrasound procedure on patient’s chart.
6.
Documents variances, repeats, and other such occurrences to help maintain high quality health care and opportunity for quality improvement.
7.
Maintains stock supplies, performs general office duties, and is responsible for proper film labeling and following prescribed techniques to assure acceptable quality and consistency.
8.
Transports and assists patients as needed.
9.
Practice’s safe radiation exposure and protection, as well as, general safety for patients, visitors, and staff at all times.
10.
Complies with policy and procedures for the departmental and hospital wide programs.
Participates in patient safety training and patient protection, including the needs and methods to report medical/healthcare errors and abuse.
11.
Produces diagnostic quality images utilizing ultrasound equipment and effectively judges ultrasound images for proper technique to best demonstrate anatomy and pathology.
Be able to perform critical procedures under stress during emergency situations.
12.
Performs diagnostic studies using mobile radiographic equipment in emergency or patient rooms as ordered by physician.
Performs diagnostic studies in surgical suite with C-Arm and other equipment.
13.
Provides care specific to the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
14.
Performs all related duties as assigned by department manager or other duties assigned by lead technologist.
15.
Works well with staff within the Radiology Department and other departments.
16.
Observes proper times for breaks, lunches, and reporting to and leaving work.
Is not excessively absent or late for work.
17.
Shows desire and interest in continuing education, attends staff meetings when possible (if missed, must read and sign meeting minutes), and assists in orientation and training of new employees.
