GAI Consultants is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager for Civil Engineering.
Your responsibilities in this position will include leading business development initiatives, and managing both civil engineering and multi-discipline projects and staff within the Civil and Environmental Engineering Business Sector, which is in GAI’s Power Business Unit.
The ideal candidate will possess a firm understanding of general civil engineering and the ability to generate work.
The client focus of the Power Business Unit includes: Power, Energy and Industrial clients.
Essential Duties: The candidate should be driven and be seeking the opportunity to: Function as a seller/doer Identify, pursue, and successfully secure new business opportunities Lead and manage projects Technically lead engineering tasks in the area of expertise Manage staff and/or project teams Business Development Responsibilities: Up to 30% of job duties will be dedicated to Business Development.
Business Development, including initiating new client relationships and going deeper within existing clients.
Generates new work for the division through existing client relationships.
May serve as client contact for projects managed.
Actively wins new work from both new and existing clients by building and maintaining customer relationships, monitoring future work opportunities, communicating regularly, and attending client events.
Expectation is for the successful candidate to secure enough new work to support six full-time equivalent (FTEs) staff members within two years.
Coordinate and develop the proposed scope, schedule, and fee for the entire project.
Supports senior management in contract negotiations with clients.
Coordinates and develops all aspects of pre-contract work within the Division including go/no-go, strategy, proposed scope, schedule, and fee for projects.
Project Management Responsibilities: Approximately 25% of job duties are dedicated to project management.
Project management responsibilities include delivering scope, schedule, budget, while adhering to GAI’s quality, safety, and profitability expectations for all projects managed.
Plans and manages small to medium value projects and tasks, and multiple projects and tasks at one time.
Works closely with Project Accounting to monitor and control project cost and billings to meet budget profit, analyze project performance data, and develop recovery plans as needed.
Plans and manages both single and multi-discipline projects.
Meets annual PM revenue target.
Works with Project Controls staff to analyze project performance data on an ongoing basis and develop recovery plans as needed.
The candidate should have the desire and ability to travel to Project sites, as needed, primarily in the mid-Atlantic and mid-west regions of the United States.
Technical Responsibilities: Approximately 25% of job duties are dedicated to Technical production and delivery.
Technical work, including but not limited to engineering design, drawing review and stamping, and QA/QC.
Implements effective engineering methods, provides technical guidance and acts as a resource for engineers and designers.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Up to 20% of job duties will be dedicated to supervisor responsibilities Expected to be a direct supervisor for Civil engineering staff.
Directly and indirectly, supervising technical staff within the division.
Supervises develops and manages career paths of direct reports, including performance and compensation reviews.
Trains, coaches, leads and directs the work of their staff Effectively communicates with the Business Division Leader to resolve issues and problems and to share personnel, workloads, marketing leads, and ideas Work closely with other Business Sector managers/division leaders to support the delivery of profitable, safe, and sustainable projects and services for our clients Administers policies and procedures and evaluates results and performance for direct reports.
Develops, implements, maintains, and manages group processes, including but not limited to, QMS and resource planning.
Direction Received: Works under the supervision of the Civil Engineering Division Leader and typically reports to senior management.
Work independently and direct/oversee engineering and drafting staff on a project basis Possess strong communication skills that will allow for a collaborative environment with other engineering disciplines.
Travel to other offices/meeting with clients / attend project-specific meetings is necessary for this position (up to 25%).
Experience Required: 20 years: Civil Engineering and Engineering Sales experience Demonstrated track record of external customer engagements and building and maintaining successful client relationships Demonstrated sales experience in acquiring new clients Demonstrated success in group and project management, staff growth and development, client development, and directing the concurrent execution of multiple complex projects and tasks.
Demonstrated working knowledge of fundamental project management skills and concepts such as: developing pricing, cost budget monitoring, calculating profit, etc.
, Demonstrated mastery of fundamental project management skills and use of PM advanced techniques and practices to increase productivity, efficiency, and accuracy.
Demonstrated business acumen and have a clear understanding of financial statements as they apply to the business.
Willingness to learn GAI-specific project management procedures and requirements Demonstrates in-depth understanding of software as needed to perform the duties described here, including Microsoft Office Suite applications and software, CAD programs, document management systems, database software, HR Systems, internet software, and reporting tools related to databases and client-specific software.
Experience managing technical staff and performing duties such as hiring, budgeting, employee performance, and compensation reviews, creating a group and department goals.
Detailed understanding of civil engineering concepts and principles.
Effective leadership skills.
Motivated, focused, and hard-working Effective communication and technical writing skills Experience Preferred: Significant experience serving Power, Energy and/or Industrial clients.
