About the Opportunity
This position coordinates research for the Division of Gastroenterology and serves as study coordinator for clinical research trials and all division research.
This position prepares submissions for research studies by writing IRB protocol statements, informed consent forms, design advertisement used in patient recruitment and all aspects of conducting research.

What you’ll do: Coordinates all aspects of clinical trials according to Good Clinical Practices (GCP): Serves as Study Coordinator for clinical research trials Prepares Institutional Review Board (IRB) Protocol Statements, Informed Consent Forms and Office of Sponsored Program (OSP) Funding Approval Applications Serves as liaison between study sponsor, principal investigator, OSP, IRB and affiliate institutions Coordinates and contracts for needs of protocol with appropriate agencies or departments (i.
e.
Clinical Labs, Radiology, Outpatient or Inpatient Pharmacy, etc.
) Schedules and conducts site visits with monitors from sponsors to review data and all documentation for accuracy Maintains accurate medical and study records including documentation of adverse events per the study protocol and federal regulations Recruits and screens research subjects following study protocol Counsels study patients regarding participation including informed consent procedures, treatment plans, study drug side effects, time lines and compensation Collects data from subject visits Maintain confidential patient source documents and case report forms as required by the sponsor and federal regulations Analyzes trial budgets for cost effectiveness and negotiates budget changes with sponsor Participates in the recruitment of potential protocols for activation from industry sponsored and other sponsoring organizations Assists faculty in writing/editing research abstracts and papers Enters study information into appropriate databases within department Independently participates in activities to increase knowledge base and performance Qualifications Bachelor's degree in health, business, education or related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
One (1) year in a health related field, education, science, program development, or previous research role.
Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills are critical to this position.
Individual must be able to lead others in projects that will occasionally involve prestigious members of national organizations and WV state government.
The person must be able to communicate with patients, industry sponsors and physicians, as well as finance and the Office of Sponsored Programs.
Communications with others include the following: Faculty, trainees, and support staff within the Health Sciences Center and WVU Medicine External contacts include patients, vendors, pharmaceutical representatives, faculty from other institutions, members of professional organizations and representatives from WV state government (occasionally) Analytical Demands: This person will be responsible for directing the daily operations of the division’s research and, therefore, must have the ability to think independently and in a forward approach.
Organizational skills are critical to the planning of research activities.
Good problem solving skills and the ability to make decisions using sound judgment and discretion are critical.
Financial Responsibility: Review of financial and key indicator reports.
Instrumental in helping determine reasons for variances, volume changes and corrective actions needed.
Prepares budgets for grant requests from pharmaceutical companies or other vendors to support research activities.
Works with Principal Investigators preparing budgets for extramurally funded projects.
