Information Technology Services at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (remote) Business Analyst to join our Application Development and Integration Services team.
About the Opportunity The Business Analyst will participate in initial project assessments, plans, and estimates.
Throughout your day, you will utilize standards in the delivery of plans, designs, program modification, testing and installation of project work.
Each step of the way, you will work along with technical and functional team members, recommending design/system alternatives or approaches to WVU’s systems requirements.
You will be part of the development process within the operations group; however, you will work independently and take ownership of projects while consulting with other team members for guidance and support as needed.

Wellness programs What You'll Do Participate in initial project assessments, plans, and estimates.
Utilize standards in the delivery of plans, designs, program modification, testing and installation of project work.
Recommend design/system alternatives or approaches to WVU’s systems requirements.
Effectively utilize technical/application analytical skills in the documentation of requirements, process flows, use cases, system design, technical specifications, test cases, system setups, policies and procedures, and delivery of ITS projects in accordance with WVU standards.
Identify areas of application and technical weaknesses and recommend alternatives and solutions.
Identify gaps and weaknesses in organizational processes or procedures and recommend solutions.
Analyze and document business processes and Identify opportunities for improvement.
Understand and adhere to established project management policies and procedures, including meeting project work plans, status reports, and documentation.
Follow established methodology to complete project deliverables on all assigned tasks within deadlines.
Understand and work toward the attainment of WVU’s strategic and operational goals.
Invest time and effort to continually learn and stay current on changing technologies and applications.
Continually evaluate, research, develop, and maintain solutions using evolving methodologies to keep pace with new technologies.
Serve as liaison and establish positive, professional relationships with technical and functional staff related to specific business applications.
Foster an environment of teamwork and professionalism by effectively working with others to accomplish project deliverables by sharing knowledge and ideas.
Establish proper communication channels with project team personnel and respond appropriately to all concerns.
Communicate information clearly, accurately, and in a timely manner to project team members.
Communicate clearly and concisely in written and oral formats.
Work under the direction and supervision of Lead Senior Business Analyst resources to develop expertise within the technical areas assigned.
Support WVU’s confidentiality and security policies and ensure application compliance.
Provide support for University applications.
Create, submit, and manage change request tickets including the following: Coordinating testing & obtaining change request approval.
Creation of service transition plan.
Ticket closeout and communication.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
A minimum of four (4) years of combined experience in the following: Experience with defining problems, collecting data, gathering requirements, and establishing structure and analysis for complex business issues.
Experience in writing technical design/solution documents.
Experience in business process analysis and improvement.
Experience with higher education software is preferred.
Experience in research, academic or healthcare setting is preferred.
Excellent organizational skills Proficiency in conveying ideas to both technical and non-technical individuals.
Skill in leading discussions among multiple subject matter experts to extract their insights and achieve consensus.
Proficiency in communication (both oral and written), problem-solving, and process analysis.
Sound understanding of IT processes and system workflows.
Comfortable with presenting and communicating to audiences with technical and business backgrounds.
Aptitude for analytical thinking and process assessment.
Proven capability to collaborate effectively within teams of varying skill sets, adeptly managing numerous tasks and priorities as required.
Comprehensive knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle and agile/scrum development methodology Familiarity with PL/SQL and SQL.
Extensive familiarity with business application development methodologies.
Comprehension of logical and physical database design and modeling.
Adaptable and quick to acclimate evolving technical landscapes.
Proficient use of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Visio software.
Understanding of industry best practices within the higher education industry.
Ability to devise holistic solutions that consider consequences and provide feasible resolutions.
Familiarity with Ellucian Banner, WorkDay, Atlassian (Jira/Jira Service Management), Oracle EBS, and Integration solutions that leverage API frameworks is preferred.
